Even When I Doubted

I was reminded last week of an answer to prayer. We had taken a group of teenagers to Harmony Hill Youth Camp, in Fulton, Missouri, in an older church van. The van’s engine began running hot, and the AC stopped working. Because of our mechanical issues we decided to leave camp late Saturday night, traveling the five hours home in the cooler evening.
On I-44 between Lebanon and Springfield, Missouri, we ran into a heavy thunderstorm. The traffic had slowed to nearly a crawl because of the rain. In the left lane, the motor of the van died, and I coasted to the right side of the busy, rainy, divided highway.
On the shoulder of the road, I tried to restart it, but it would not restart. My first thought was, “The engine is probably blown.” I was panicking at the side of I–44, several miles from an exit, in the middle of a heavy thunderstorm, with a van full of teens.
One of the teen boys asked me if they could pray for the van. Even though I didn’t really think it would do any good, I assured him it would be a good thing and asked him to lead the prayer for the van. God answered, even though I had my doubts. The van started, and we made it safely to Oklahoma in answer to a teenager’s prayer.

- God’s financial provision for KCC so that the mission of the institution can continue to move forward.
World Mission Board
- Caribbean Conference: That we would restore balance in church attendance and ministry, nurture strong families, and significantly strengthen evangelism by effectively winning and discipling men as Jesus did.
- God to will show COGH World Missions new fields that need to be reached.
- The message of salvation and biblical holiness to be clearly preached and taught.
