Praise Brings Renewal

My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth! He will not stumble; the one who watches over you will not slumber. Psalm 121:2-3 NLT

So many times in my life I have felt that, as an adult, I should be able to handle every issue that comes my way. Sometimes I feel like the problem I am facing is too small to bother God. Sometimes the problem I faced was my fault because I had messed up or wasn’t wise enough to make a better choice. Many times you and I tell ourselves, “It’s me. I’m the problem. Why would God help me?”

The problem with this type of thinking is that we are excluding God’s influence in these parts of our lives. Any time we exclude God from any part of our lives, we become weak and feeble. This causes us to be discouraged, disoriented, doubting, and perhaps disgusted with ourselves and our life.

The beautiful thing about praising God is that it shifts our focus off ourselves and our problems. Praising God puts the focus on God, who is all-powerful, all-knowing, just, gracious, merciful, and loves us unconditionally. Our human minds are limited in our comprehension of God, but when we praise God, it helps us shift our worries to gratitude. This gives us a peace and joy that nothing else can give. I like the chorus of the hymn, “Turn your Eyes Upon Jesus.” When we turn our eyes to Him, “the things of earth will grow strangely dim, in the light of His glory and grace.”

Choosing to praise God is a powerful way to renew your mind.
