Higher Ground

Jesus meets Martha and Mary while they are grieving the loss of their only brother, Lazarus, who had died four days earlier. You can imagine how heartbroken they were. Even with so many people around them, they felt alone, overwhelmed, and misunderstood. But then . . . Jesus came! He felt their pain and showed them compassion!

Does that sound like you—or someone you know? Maybe you feel alone, misunderstood, or weighed down by a heavy burden. This is no coincidence. Let God’s Word speak to your heart, help you, and give you the comfort and peace you need.

When was the last time you cried? Maybe someone told you, “Don’t cry—it makes you look weak.” But who said that? There is nothing wrong with crying. A 2002 Tilburg University study published in Cognition and Emotion found that “women cried an average of 3.5 times a month, while men cried an average of 1.9 times a month.” Tears are a natural response when we hurt or when we share someone else’s pain.

Jesus cried, too! So, go ahead, have your once-a-month or three-times-monthly cries; let the tears come! It will do you good! Our world needs down-to-earth believers who understand, genuinely care, and show compassion.
